WORLD’S TOP FOUR CONFIRMED FOR 2024 HSBC WOMEN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP The world’s top four ranked players, Lilia Vu, Ruoning Yin, Celine Boutier and Minjee Lee, will headline the 2024 HSBC Women’s World Championship, taking place at Sentosa Golf Club, Singapore, February 29 – March 3, 2024.
Joining two-time major champion, and defending champion, Jin Young Ko, American World No.1 Lilia Vu will be looking to build on her breakout 2023 season which saw her win the first and last Majors of the year by adding the HSBC Women’s World Championship to her ever more impressive resume.
Vu explained, “Playing in Asia was really where I started to build my confidence and see success on the course last year. I arrived in Singapore right after winning my first LPGA title and, although it was my first time playing there, I felt really comfortable and loved the atmosphere and the course at Sentosa. I finished top 15 in my debut and this year my goal is to be holding the trophy on Sunday afternoon.”
China’s Yin and France’s Boutier shot up the rankings after securing their first Major titles at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and the Amundi Evian Championship respectively. Lee, a two-time Major winner, finished her year strong winning two out of the final four events of the season.
Yin added, “I can’t wait to make my debut at the HSBC Women’s World Championship as it is one of the biggest events in Asia and I have dreamed of being able to play there. Lots of the players call it ‘Asia’s Major’ and tell me its their favourite week of the year so I can’t wait to get there and experience it for myself. Having benefited so much from the CGA-HSBC China Junior Golf Programme growing up, I think HSBC’s involvement as the title sponsor make it even more important for me to play my best as I want to make them proud and to thank them for everything they have done to help me on my path to being a professional golfer and reaching World No.1.” Tickets for this year’s 16th edition of the HSBC Women’s World Championship are on sale and for detailed information on ticket sales, please visit www.hsbcgolf.com/womens/tickets. Of the 14 previous winners, 12 are Major champions, a fact which endorses the golfers’ claim that this is ‘Asia’s Major’.
Kee Joo Wong, CEO HSBC Singapore said, “We’re delighted to welcome the world’s top four ranked players to Singapore, especially our CGA-HSBC China Junior Golf Programme graduate, Ruoning Yin, whom we have enjoyed watching develop into an exciting world-class player over the years.”
The 72-hole stroke play tournament will once again be played on the renowned Tanjong Course at Sentosa Golf Club, which hosts its 11th edition of the tournament. Celebrated for its commitment to sustainability initiatives in golf globally, Sentosa Golf Club proudly holds the titles for ‘World’s Best Golf Course,’ ‘Asia’s Best Golf Course,’ and ‘Singapore’s Best Golf Course’ as awarded at the 2023 World Golf Awards.
